Privacy Policy — Still
Last updated: 2 November 2026
Still (“the App”) compresses photos and videos locally on your device. Your selected media is not uploaded to our servers.
Media and on-device data
- Selected media: Photos and videos are processed locally for compression.
- Metadata: EXIF and color-profile metadata may be preserved or removed according to your settings.
- App state: Preferences, Pro entitlement state, free-output balance, rewarded-ad history, your measurement choice, a short history of ad offers you saw or declined, and the list of items you optimized or chose never to optimize are stored on your device.
- Smart sorting: When you use the library optimizer, Still looks at small thumbnails on your device to sort screenshots, documents and photos of everyday things apart from photos of people and pets. The thumbnails and results never leave your device.
Still does not require an account and does not receive your payment-card details.
Optional rewarded advertising
Free users may voluntarily watch a rewarded advertisement to receive additional output credits. An ad only loads after you tap an offer that names the reward; Still shows no banner, interstitial, or app-open ads. Still uses Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK) and Google’s User Messaging Platform for advertising and privacy choices. Through AdMob mediation, Meta Audience Network may bid to fill a rewarded ad. Apple’s SKAdNetwork may be used to attribute app installs without identifying you.
Depending on your region, device settings, consent choices, and the ad network’s configuration, Google or Meta may process:
- IP address and approximate location derived from it;
- device or app identifiers, including the advertising identifier when permitted;
- advertising data and interactions, such as ad impressions and video views;
- diagnostic, crash, and performance information.
This information may be used to deliver and measure ads, prevent abuse, and improve advertising services. Still never sends the photo or video you are compressing to Google or Meta for advertising.
App campaign measurement
Still includes Meta App Events from the Facebook iOS SDK to support measurement of Still app-install and re-engagement campaigns. Automatic event logging, codeless event logging, and advertising-identifier collection are disabled by default.
Meta App Events does not start when you first open the App. It starts only after you first choose to watch a rewarded ad and your privacy choices allow it: in regions where consent is required, only if you consent to Meta in the privacy choices. After that it follows your saved choices, including on later launches. If you opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information under a US state privacy law, Still asks Meta to apply Limited Data Use. When it is enabled, Meta may process limited app and device information, IP-derived approximate location, diagnostics, and fixed app events such as app activation, successful output, rewarded-ad completion, or a verified Pro purchase. Still does not send selected media, photo-library identifiers, filenames, file paths, album names, or compression metadata to Meta.
Optional product measurement
Still can measure how the App is used, but only if you turn it on. Until you choose, and after you turn it off, nothing is collected for this purpose. Still asks once, after you save or share a result, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Share anonymous usage data.
When it is on, Still uses Google Analytics for Firebase to record app events such as media selected (type and count range); compression started, finished or failed (with an error code); outputs saved or shared; free-output limits; Still Pro screens and purchase results; and rewarded-ad offers, ad results and the ad value reported by AdMob. Events carry coarse values only: counts, size and time ranges, codes, and your plan type. They never include your photos, videos, thumbnails, file names, photo-library identifiers, metadata, locations, free text, or email address.
Firebase assigns a random app-instance identifier. Still does not create an account or user ID, does not collect the advertising identifier for analytics, turns off collection of the vendor identifier (IDFV), and keeps advertising storage, ad user data, and ad personalization signals off for analytics. Measurement is separate from advertising consent and from the iOS tracking permission: turning it on does not allow tracking or personalized ads, and turning it off does not affect compression, Still Pro, or rewarded ads.
When you turn measurement off, Still stops collection, clears the measurement data the App holds, and resets the Firebase app-instance identifier, so later measurement is not linked to earlier measurement. Data already sent is kept by Google Analytics for the retention period set for Still’s Analytics property, at most 14 months, and then deleted.
App configuration
Still uses Firebase Remote Config to receive settings for how often optional rewarded-ad offers appear and which approved Still Pro screen layout is shown. To deliver these settings, Firebase receives a Firebase installation identifier and basic app and device information, at most about once a day. This does not depend on your measurement choice, is not used for advertising, and cannot change prices, free outputs, ad rewards, or your purchases.
Consent and your choices
- Rewarded ads are optional. You can use the daily free allowance or Still Pro without watching an ad.
- Where required, the App asks for advertising consent before requesting an ad.
- When applicable, you can reopen your choices from Settings → Privacy choices.
- After the applicable advertising-consent flow, iOS may ask whether you allow tracking. Declining does not block compression, Pro features, or rewarded ads; Still does not enable advertising-identifier collection unless you allow it.
- Product measurement is off until you turn it on, and you can turn it off in Settings → Share anonymous usage data.
- Still shows the optional ad offer after a session less often when you decline it, and you can hide it with Settings → Show fewer ad offers. You can still watch an ad from Plan & usage or the Still Pro screen.
- You can revoke Photos access in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos.
Purchases
In-App Purchases are handled by Apple. We do not receive your payment details.
Retention
App preferences and local working data remain on your device until removed by you, the App’s retention controls, or deletion of the App. Items you delete in Still move to Still’s Recently Deleted and are removed permanently after 3 days. Third-party processing is governed by the provider’s own retention and privacy terms.
